Band Director

Chris Yoo

     Chris Yoo is currently in his second year as Director of Bands at George Rogers  Clark High School. His duties include directing two concert bands, marching band, jazz band, and pep band. Under his direction, the GRC Bands have consistently received Distinguished and high ratings and placement in all performances. Prior to GRC, he was the Director of Bands at Murray High School where his bands received Distinguished Ratings and the marching band placed in KMEA State Finals every year. In 2009, the Murray High School Symphonic Band was 1 of 5 groups selected and performed at the Carnegie Hall Band and Orchestra Festival.

     Mr. Yoo is an active clinician and adjudicator. He currently serves as the KMEA District 7 Marching Band Chair. Previously, he served as District 1 Band Coordinator and Marching Band Chair for KMEA. In 2010 he received the District 1 Teacher of the Year Award and nominated for KMEA State Teacher of the Year. In 2011 he was presented The Phi Beta Mu, The National School Bandmasters Fraternity, and Outstanding Young Band Director in Kentucky. Mr. Yoo received his Bachelor’s Degree from Murray State University and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Educational Teacher Leadership at The University of Kentucky. He resides in Lexington, KY with his amazing wife, Angela, son Jacob, and their dog Annie.

Director of Percussion

Joe Hobbs

     Joe is currently the director of percussion at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, KY. His roles include percussion ensemble, marching band and indoor drum line. Joe previously held the same position at Harpeth High School in Nashville, TN. Under his direction Harpeth was a Scholastic Open finalist at WGI Championships in 2009 and 2010, placing 4th in 2010. Harpeth also won the Indianapolis (2009) and Nashville Regionals (2009, 2010) as well as the SCGC championships (2009). Joe currently serves on the percussion staff for the Phantom Regiment from Rockford, IL. Before joining Phantom Regiment Joe was the battery caption for Spirit of Atlanta. He held this title from 2008-2010. Joe was also involved with Music City Mystique as a battery instructor. He was a member of Southwind Drum and Bugle from 2001-2003. During his time at Southwind he was named the 2003 DCI I&E Snare drum champion. From 2004-2006 Joe was a member of the Cavaliers.

     During his time with the Cavaliers Joe won 2 DCI world championships, 2006 DCI I&E mixed ensemble championship, "Cavalier of the year" and the "Zildjian award" in 2006. Joe received is Music Education degree from Murray State University. Other teaching experience includes: Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, Murray State University, Austin Peay State University, Mt. Juliet High School, Marshall County High School, and Murray High School. Joe is endorsed by Pearl Drums, Innovative Percussion, and Evans drumheads. Joe currently resides in Lexington, KY with his wife Kara and their Great Dane "Zeus".

GRC Colorguard

Karen Wear and Erin Maley

     Karen Wear has been a colorguard instructor at GRC since the fall of 2008. Her marching experiences include Lloyd Memorial High School 1996-2001 and Onyx World 2008. Her teaching experience includes Lloyd Memorial, Sycamore, Beechwood, Onyx A and O2. Karen has received a Psychology degree from Northern Kentucky University and a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development from Xavier University. Her day job is working as an organizational development consultant for the UC Health hospital system in Cincinnati, OH. Karen resides in Ft. Mitchell, KY and loves, Mexican food, pedicures, Frank's Donuts and of course the GRCCG!

     Erin Maley has been instructing the colorguard at George Rogers Clark High School since the fall of 2008. Prior to GRC she instructed the guards at Lloyd Memorial High School, marking 2011 her tenth year of teaching. Erin has received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Kentucky University where she majored in Mathematics and minored in Biology. She spends her days as a math teacher at Boone County High School in Florence, KY. Erin lives in Erlanger, KY and enjoys reading, shopping, guacamole and the beach!
